Initially established as a UK Porphyria Interest Group, BIPNET supports specialist NHS and affiliated clinicians and scientists working together to aid the diagnosis and treatment of porphyria.

Providing training and education about metabolic investigations is a core function of BIPNET. We have a network of Laboratory Contacts that users can contact through to try and organise training locally.

We share freely a range of best practice guidelines to help clinicians with common presentations in children and adults.

We hold an annual educational meeting to which guest speakers, overseas colleagues and patients' representatives are invited, and have a Laboratory Diagnostic subgroup which meets regarding best practice in the laboratory diagnostic elements of porphyria
